John Flynn

Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Richmond Carlton is a South-Jersey based Celtic (folk) harpist. Although we wish that we could have him perform in our meetinghouse, we are pleased to present this concert online. Richmond is also the bassist for the progressive rock band The Twenty Committee. richmondcarltonmusic.com

Dawn Hiatt www.dawnhiattmusic.com uniquely marries classic Nashville influences directly to chamber pop, with spikes of alt-country, folk-rock and Tin Pan Alley in between. Her classic country tunes are marked by memorable hooks and harmonies, Patsy Cline with a shot of Chet Atkins thrown in, yet the production, rather than being reverential, often suggests Jon Brion’s work with Aimee Mann or Fiona Apple. Her alt-country tunes recall Whiskeytown, while its ebb and tide of grit and kitsch suggest a close kinship with Neko Case and Andrew Bird.

John Flynn is an American singer-songwriter and activist known for his powerful music and tireless efforts on behalf of the lost and the lonely, the shackled and scarred. His career has embodied an authentic troubadour odyssey that moved legendary folk DJ Gene Shay to call Flynn "the most quintessential folk singer in my life", and Deana McCloud, Executive Director of the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma to write, "John Flynn is the real deal. His work follows in the footsteps of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Kris Kristofferson, and other social justice troubadours as he speaks the truth and gives a voice to society's disenfranchised. His work fills your heart and opens your eyes as he continues to walk the walk of a true advocate for equality, justice, and peace."

Bethlehem and Sad Patrick

Bethlehem and Sad Patrick perform songs of love and other struggles. Her soaring vocals and his sparse guitar ride atop her driving tarima and body percussion to deliver powerful songs about being in and out of love, living in the city and on the margins, and struggling to make it. besadmusic.com

Polished and precise, yet buoyed with an airy grace, Joy Ike paints with a broad palette that defies easy categorization.  The Nigerian-American, Philadelphia, PA-based artist crafts music at turns soaring and plaintive, draped around a voice all dusky suede. Fiery, free, and immediately arresting, Ike possesses a powerful instrument which she wields with humble virtuosity. joyike.com

The Rob Roy Duo plays quiet, peaceful, contemplative music in the genres of popular music of the Renaissance era, Spanish-influenced South American Folk, Southern Italian Folk, and Celtic (Scottish and Irish) as well as a few contemporary pieces. Instruments include mandolin, mandola, piccolo mandolin, classical and steel-strung guitar and some hand-held percussion, as the pieces dictate.
